A popular St. Michaels burger joint, Hammy’s Burgers & Shakes, is set to open its second location on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach Thursday, June 2 with a philanthropic twist. For every new customer who brings in a photo of their dog, Hammy’s will give a free order of tater tots and donate $5 to the Delaware Humane Association. The dog photos will also become permanent decor in the new space.
Ava’s Hospitality Group – the crew behind Baltimore Avenue favorites Ava’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar and Theo’s Steaks, Sides & Spirits – is excited to bring decadent milkshakes for kids, boozy adult shakes, tater tots, chili, and more than 30 burgers to its new beachy location at 19266 Coastal Highway.
Among the fun and creative burgers locals and visitors can look forward to noshing are the Blondes Have More Fungus Burger topped with mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese, and The Big Mark Burger smothered in special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions.
Rehoboth beachgoers can indulge in their favorite Hammy’s comfort foods by dining in or ordering online for carryout. Impossible veggie burgers, turkey burgers and salads will also be on the menu. A full bar complete with beer, cocktails, wine and more is coming soon to help hungry diners wash it all down.
Hammy’s is named for Hamlet, the lemon beagle of the owner, Chris Agharabi, which was found eating rocks on the side of a road in Cambridge. Dog love is a recurring theme with Ava’s Hospitality Group. Its sister restaurant, Ava’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar, donated $1,000 to the Delaware Humane Association earlier this year through its wine bottle Christmas Tree project.
Hammy’s St. Michaels opened in 2021 as a carryout option for Eastern Shore burger lovers during the pandemic.
“It feels right to open our newest Hammy’s location with rescue dogs in mind since Hamlet himself was a rescue,” said Agharabi.
Hammy’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Monday. The restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
