Harbour Chef Gary Papp to demo at Sept. 10 farmers market

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at George H.P. Smith Park.

Chef Gary Papp from Lewes’ favorite dining spot on the canal, Harbour, will present a demo at 10 a.m. Highlighting the integrity of unsurpassed, locally sourced seafood, organic produce and meats, Harbour’s seasonally inspired menu offerings are prepared fresh daily and lovingly crafted.

The HLFM Big Raffle drawing was held Sept. 3. The Jazz Fest Weekend tickets and dinner went to Kathy Kolb. The winner of the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including eight $125 restaurant gift cards was Nichole DiNunzio. The private in-home dinner and wine pairing for 10 by Chef Sean Corea of Lewes Oyster House went to Sally and Frank Powell. The winner of the Electra Cruiser 1 Step-Thru bicycle was Mary Ellen Oferrall. Thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets this year. All proceeds support the market 

In case of inclement weather, the market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road. The Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is open weekly with 11 great farmers from 8 to 11 a.m. through Sept. 28. Dogs at the markets must be under control on a six-foot, non-retractable leash.

Lots of beautiful eggplant and tomatoes are still available. This week brings freshly picked apples, Italian plums, broccoli, kalettes (baby kale), figs, green beans, wax pole beans, beets, spring and regular onions, shallots, garlic, gold and red potatoes, cucumbers, and all types of sweet and hot peppers including Shishito. There are also watermelons, cantaloupes, sweet corn, fresh-cut basil bunches, fall squashes, arugula, lettuces, pork sausages, chops and ribs, tilapia fish, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crab meat, crabcakes, crab salad, grass-fed chicken and beef (ground beef, filet mignon, New York strip, sirloin, skirt, flank and Bavette steaks), honey, mushrooms, eggs, yogurt, milk, butter, ice cream, kombucha, jams, fresh-baked breads, pastries made with fruit from market vendors, herb, veggie and flower plants, cut-flower bouquets including sunflowers, locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks, and more.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is producer-only, so customers are able to buy directly from the farmer who grew the produce.

Children’s Storytime at the Market, a partnership with the Lewes Public Library, takes place at 10 a.m. Library volunteers read books about farming, gardening, nature and healthy eating at the yellow tent near the HLFM Information Tent.

The market processes SNAP, WIC and SFMNP, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Customers may go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its food pantry purchase program. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk and other food from growers at the market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including Epworth church and Casa San Francisco. The market team thanks customers for their generosity.

The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont Avenue will be open for handicap drop-off and pickup.
