Harriet E. Cunningham Taylor, state retiree
Harriet E. Cunningham Taylor, 96, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023. She was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Odessa, daughter of the late William and Helen Ennis.
Harriet made a career working for the State of Delaware and retired from the State Liquor Board after many dedicated years. She was a faithful member of St. James’ Episcopal churches, in Wilmington and Florida. A nurturer at heart, Harriet was always on the lookout for those in need. She loved helping others. Harriet had many hobbies and interests. She had a love for travel and did so extensively with her husband, always excited to visit new destinations. Harriet was a skilled baker, and she made a variety of the most amazing, delicious Christmas cookies that everyone looked forward to. She also liked to indulge her sweet tooth with regular outings for ice cream. Above all this, Harriet cherished time spent with those she held most dear. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Harriet was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husbands, William Cunningham and Niles Taylor; and her stepsons, Willis Taylor and Byron Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa M. Ainsworth; her stepsons, Doug Taylor (Joy) and Roland Taylor (Carolyn); her daughter-in-law, Lorraine Taylor; her granddaughter, Sommer Iffrig; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 2106 Saint James Church Road, Wilmington, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Old Drawyers Church Cemetery, 2839 DuPont Pkwy., Middletown.
