Harry K Foundation teams with Perdue and food bank for holiday meals

December 27, 2021

The Harry K Foundation recently teamed up with Perdue Farms and the Food Bank of Delaware to distribute 450 holiday meals for needy families across the Cape Region.

Volunteers from the food bank and Perdue were on hand to distribute boxes of food that will go to families at nine schools plus the Community Resource Center in Rehoboth Beach.

Harry K Foundation founder Harry Keswani was on hand for the distribution at Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford facility Dec. 20, and he helped load boxes onto trucks. The boxes included ham and fixings such as dressings, canned vegetables, and pie crust to make dessert.

Keswani said the foundation, dedicated to helping feed hungry children, has come a long way since its beginnings a decade ago. The foundation has established 42 grab-and-go food pantries across the state, held its ninth annual Christmas ball on Dec. 11, and teamed up with Perdue and the food bank to give out 450 meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“It’s working,” Keswani said. “During COVID, we experienced a little bit of how things that were at our fingertips are now so hard to get. That’s what a lot of our kids have always felt. That’s why we’re trying to make a difference, especially this holiday season.”

He praised the partnership with Perdue and the food bank, which has gotten bigger and better every year.

“We’re great partners. It’s never ‘Can we do it?’ It’s ‘How many can we do?’” Keswani said.
