Hauling pilings the old-fashioned way in 1907

September 28, 2021

This photo, which graces a postcard mailed in 1907, shows a team of oxen and mules driven by their lady handler hauling a load of stripped trees destined, perhaps, for Boardwalk or foundation pilings in the emerging ocean resort of Rehoboth Beach. The scene appears to be at the ocean end of Rehoboth Avenue when the resort’s main drag was still a sandy street.
