On June 3, I was taking my cat Molly to Savannah Animal Hospital for a toenail trim. While walking across the parking lot, she decided to walk in her carrier. I stepped to balance myself and stepped wrong on a speed bump and went crashing on my left side. I was able to get us both inside the office door, where Savannah personnel took over. They took care of Molly and called an ambulance for me, as I knew I had broken my wrist and possibly more, as well as hit my head.
Thank you to the Lewes Fire Department EMTs for doing their best to make me comfortable and taking me to Beebe Healthcare, where I was seen immediately.
Thank you to the emergency room crew at Beebe who diagnosed a broken wrist, a broken collar bone and assured me that I did not have a concussion.
Thank you to Dr. Shannon Fitzpatrick and her operating room team who repaired my broken wrist.
Thank you to Dr. Patrick Kane and his operating team who repaired my collar bone.
Thank you to Elite Physical Therapy who have been showing me how to help my body perform like it did before two surgeries.
I feel very fortunate to know there are so many folks in our community who were there to take care of me in many different ways.
This entire accident took place in less than 10 seconds. I had never had surgery or an accident like this, and I have been reassured that we have quality healthcare in our community.
Watch where you step, but be assured you will be taken care of very well by our local community providers.
