Heat doesn’t stop Henlopen Acres’ annual July 4 parade

Kids, adults sport the ole Red, White and Blue to get in the holiday spirit

Although the parade is just for fun, there are winners for a number of different categories. Judges with the hard decisions are (l-r) Julia Marx, Lisa McMasters, Cindy Kaiser and Kate Lyons.

It was a hot day, so even the adults get in line for ice cream before 10 a.m.

This inflatable wasn’t on the parade route, but it was nearby.

Former Mayor David Lyons started the parade nearly a decade ago. Current Mayor Joni Reich, Kate Lyons and Tim Lyons prepare to hand out the inaugural Best in Show award.

Ready to lead the parade are (l-r) Seraphine Capano, Remy Hertrich and Elason Hollinger.

This is either the cutest line up of kids’ bikes or the scariest.

Brooks Duber makes sure people follow the rules.

Carrie Lingo is happy to not be walking the route.

Buck Ellenbecker, 3, is happy to get a new Wiffle ball bat.

Emma and Hugh Riegel always have something up their sleeves for their float design.

Bjorn Hildahl wasn’t the most patriotic at the parade, but nobody else rocked the tiny wings like him.

It was a hot and humid July 4 morning, but hundreds of Henlopen Acres residents and property owners still showed up for the town’s ninth annual Independence Day Parade. Dressed in red, white and blue, participants gathered at the marina and walked or pedaled around town. Following the parade, there were fun and games in the marina parking lot. Most importantly for the hot kids and adults, there was free ice cream from Cup ‘R Cone.
