Heidi Gilmore elected to chair Sussex County Land Trust

June 7, 2022

The Sussex County Land Trust board of trustees recently elected Heidi Gilmore as its new chairperson.

The nonprofit conservation organization’s mission is to protect natural, cultural, agricultural and recreational resources in Sussex County.

An attorney with Baird Mandalas Brockstedt Federico & Cardea, Gilmore has been practicing law in Delaware for the past 24 years.

“Heidi has served as an active board member for the trust for several years, and she was an ideal choice to serve as our chair. She is extremely passionate about land preservation and making Sussex County a better place to live for everyone. We are so incredibly fortunate to have such a talented person to lead the organization into the future,” said outgoing Chair Casey Kenton, who remains on the board as secretary.

The trustees are volunteers focused on resource preservation as well as protecting quality of life in Sussex County.

Ongoing land trust projects include the 30-acre Stephen P. Hudson Park located along Route 9 near Milton, which will serve as a trailhead for the Lewes-to-Georgetown Rail Trail, and the 41-acre Nanticoke Crossing Park property on the Nanticoke River near Seaford, which will be developed into a public recreation area.

“I think everyone reaches a point in their life when they want to give back to the community. You have a little time and interest in something, and you put your action into participation in a way that makes a difference,” said Gilmore.
