Henry Eschel Edgerton Jr., enjoyed singing

Henry Eschel "Hank" Edgerton Jr., 80, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022.

Henry was born Dec. 6, 1941. Beloved son of the late Henry Eschel Edgerton and Dorothy Mae (née Coleburn) Rae; beloved brother of Frank F. Edgerton, Stanley J. Rae and Barbara A. Donnelly. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ann U. Edgerton and Pamela E. Cooke; also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving partner Theodore "Ted" R. Zapalowicz. 

He grew up and lived mostly in Baltimore City. Hank holds the interesting distinction of being Dr. Alfred Blalock's first "Blue Baby" patients and underwent groundbreaking surgery at John Hopkins Hospital. Hank graduated from Forest Park High School in 1961, where for a short time Cass Elliot of The Mamas and the Papas fame was a classmate. He later received two associate of the arts degrees from the Community College of Baltimore. Hank worked at St. Agnes hospital in the accounting and medical records department, retiring after 35 years of service. After retiring, Hank moved to Rehoboth Beach. Recently, he was looking forward to auditioning for the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus.  Hank enjoyed singing throughout his life, performing with the Baltimore Men's Chorus and local Barbershop Quartet. Hank loved to travel, read and follow the Ravens and Orioles.

A visitation for Henry will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, April 25, at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville Inc., 1630 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville, Md., with a funeral service from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 26. A committal service will occur from 11:15 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 6020 Ritchie Hwy., Baltimore, Md. Hank will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery.
