Hertrich acquires Auto Works Collision Centers

January 12, 2022

The Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships recently announced its acquisition of the Auto Works Collision Centers in Dagsboro and Lewes.

Auto Works locations will now take on the names of Hertrich Collision Center of Dagsboro and Hertrich Collision Center of Lewes.

“We are extremely excited to welcome the Auto Works team to our Hertrich family,” said Fred Hertrich IV. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to serve the Dagsboro and Lewes communities.”

David and Christine Jones opened Auto Works in 2000, originally a few doors down from the current Dagsboro location before building the Dagsboro facility on Route 113 at 27420 Auto Works Ave.

Five years ago, the team opened the Lewes location to better serve their customers in that area, at 16271 Willow Creek Road just off Route 1.

David and Christine started small and built from there, originally working with street rods and hot rods, and he was even featured in magazines for his paint work.

David first got into the automotive industry at the age of 15 as a painter before going on to learn body work and management, and then deciding to open his own business. Christine joined the business after helping with payroll and other responsibilities while having a full-time job in information technology, eventually making the leap to join the company full time.

In the past 21 years, the team has built an organization that has become a pillar of the community and trusted repair facility for countless customers. Now, David and Christine are looking to stay involved in the community with their next adventure, the creation of their own microbrewery called the Lewes Brewing Company, which will be located on Savannah Road near the Junction & Breakwater Trail.

“We congratulate David and Christine on the incredible job they have done building Auto Works into a very successful business and wish them the absolute best on their next adventure,” said  Hertrich. “We look forward to continuing the legacy they created of excellent collision repair work and outstanding customer service.”

The Hertrich Collision Center of Dagsboro and the Hertrich Collision Center of Lewes mark the eighth and ninth collision centers in the Hertrich family. Both centers will offer free estimates, paintless dent repair, glass replacement, insurance assistance, towing and rental assistance. In addition, thanks to their highly trained teams of I-Car- and manufacturer-certified technicians, all Hertrich Collision Centers offer a lifetime warranty.

“We understand that any situation in which a collision repair is needed can be a stressful one, and it is our goal to use our knowledge, experience and partnerships to make the experience as smooth and easy as possible. Customers always have the right to choose any repair facility they wish in the event of a collision, and we are proud to bring our experience and partnerships to the Lewes and Dagsboro communities,” said Hertrich.

The Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships now includes 22 dealerships, 36 franchises and nine collision centers, and carries 19 manufacturers throughout Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey, representing a complete line of multi-franchise sales, service, parts, accessories and collision centers.
