Historian Neil Lanctot to discuss ‘The Approaching Storm’ Nov. 3
The Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books will host a live, online conversation with author and historian Neil Lanctot about his new book, “The Approaching Storm: Roosevelt, Wilson, Addams and Their Clash Over America's Future,” at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, via Zoom.
“The Approaching Storm” is a fascinating story of how the three most influential American progressives of the early 20th century split over America’s response to World War I. Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Jane Addams each took a different path to prominence, and all three believed the United States must assume a more dynamic role in confronting growing domestic and international problems. However, the views of these three titans splintered into disagreement about how America should respond. Lanctot’s book offers surprising and important insights into how and why the United States emerged onto the world stage.
Lanctot is an award-winning historian and author. He has written several books, including “Campy: The Two Lives of Roy Campanella” and “Negro League Baseball: The Rise and Ruin of a Black Institution.” He lives with his wife in West Chester, Pa.
