History of south Rehoboth is lecture topic March 26

March 18, 2026

The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society & Museum will present “From Farmland to Fairways: The Lost Story of South Rehoboth” at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, 2 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

Local historian Paul Lovett will discuss how the Thompson farm property south of Philadelphia Street was developed into a newly incorporated area called Rehoboth Heights during the 1920s. The neighborhood was annexed into Rehoboth Beach in 1927, and the Thompson homestead became the clubhouse for Rehoboth Beach Country Club, a nine-hole layout on 65 acres bordering Scarborough Avenue down to Silver Lake.

"This neighborhood has a rich and fascinating history that most of us never knew existed," said Heidi Nasstrom Evans, Rehoboth Beach Museum executive director.
