HOB kindergarteners share habitat research projects

August 4, 2025

Kindergarten students at H.O. Brittingham Elementary had an opportunity to present their habitat projects during a spring showcase.

In a research project each year, HOB kindergarteners read about various types of habitats throughout the world, from jungles to forests, the ocean to the desert. In their project charts and dioramas, students highlight features from each environment including the types of animals found, the weather, vegetation and the food chain.

“Our kindergarten classes have hosted this event for the last several years and it’s always a huge hit with the kids,” said Nina Wilkinson, kindergarten teacher at HOB. “It’s a great opportunity for families and siblings to come to the school, and for each of the students to present what they learned to all of the guests.” Throughout the one-hour event, attendees have the opportunity to peruse the projects, engaging with students by listening to their presentations and asking them questions about what they learned throughout the process.

“I love how excited the students are to show off what they’ve learned throughout the unit,” said Yvette Davenport, HOB principal. “Not only are the excited to share the information with their own families and classmates, but with the families of their friends as well. It’s been a wonderful tradition for the kindergarten class.”
