HOB kindergarteners welcome local author

H.O. Brittingham Elementary School recently hosted local author Cindy Deakyne for a visit with the kindergarten classes.

Deakyne read from her book, “Lily and Hank – An Unlikely Friendship.” The story follows the adventures of Lily, a Labrador retriever, and Hank, a great blue heron, as they discover the power of kindness and understanding through an unexpected friendship.

Students were captivated by the story’s gentle message about acceptance and the beauty of forming bonds despite differences. Following the reading, the young learners had the opportunity to engage with the author directly, asking thoughtful questions about her inspiration for the story, the writing process and what it’s like to publish a book.

The visit sparked students’ imaginations and helped encourage an early love of reading and storytelling. They saw that anyone, even young writers, can bring their ideas to life through creativity and perseverance.
