Hoey Stevenson seeks a better future

November 1, 2024

As I seek your support for state Senate, I want to share the answer to the two questions I am asked most often, “Why are you running?” and “Why are you the best choice?” I am running because public service is part of who I am. From my time as vice chair of the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission to my ongoing efforts with mentoring students in our community to helping women internationally, I have worked to protect our natural resources, preserve the tranquil way of life that makes Sussex County special, and support women’s healthcare and our students’ educational experiences.

We need responsible and responsive leadership in Dover to tackle the pressing issues facing coastal Sussex. For 10 years, we had the ubiquitous Sen. Ernie Lopez to represent us. Like him, constituent service is a priority for me, and I will work tirelessly to ensure your voice is heard. I have always believed in representing all people, not just those who agree with me. Whether it’s fighting for cleaner water, better infrastructure or more transparent government spending, I will be there for you. I am committed to finding solutions that work for everyone, because at the end of the day, we all want the same things – clean water, fresh air, quality schools and a vibrant economy.

My broad experience sets me apart in this race. I’ve served as a teacher, a journalist, a nonprofit director and a member of the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission. I am not running against an opponent; I’m running for a better Delaware. One-party rule is never healthy, no matter which party holds the power. We need checks and balances to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of all people. Locally, that balance is lacking. If elected, I will bring a fresh perspective and an independent voice.

My opponent, while a decent person, represents more of the same. I believe we need change. The challenges we face are complex – addressing our aging population, ensuring quality education for our children, and supporting small businesses and first responders. I am ready to tackle these issues head-on, with the experience and dedication you deserve.

This election, I ask for your vote, not for a party, but for the future of our district.
