Homestead transformed for Cottage Tour by J. Conn Scott July 7-8

July 3, 2015

The Rehoboth Art League will hold the 66th Annual Cottage Tour of Art Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7-8. The two-day self-paced tour will showcase eight homes in the Rehoboth and Dewey Beach areas. One of the homes on the tour is the historic Peter Marsh Homestead at the 3.5-acre RAL Henlopen Acres location.

Richard Scott, Lisa S. Scott and Steven Bendyna, with J. Conn Scott, will be furnishing the main floor of the Homestead. They will blend modern furnishings and décor to compliment the historical design in the three main rooms of the Homestead. An added element will be the works in the current exhibition, Animal Kingdom - Members Showcase. The exhibition runs through July 19. Each year the interior design of the Homestead is a surprise.

Each home on the tour is quite distinct in architectural, interior and landscape design. The Preate and Pantano home is situated near the end of a cul-de-sac and the property backs up to a lovely wooded area. Many architectural elements date back to the late 18th to mid-19th century in Louisiana and Mississippi. Rural homes in this period had similar steeply pitched roofs, fanlight windows, slender columned entry porches and three dormer windows. Once inside the home there are many beautifully displayed collections of the owners. Carl Preate believes there is a “collector hidden deep within us all, but in our case, it is within plain sight.”

The ticket for the tour is a commemorative program booklet with an image and description of each home on the tour. This tour is for ages 13 and older. Tickets are $30 per person and available at both RAL locations: 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach; and RAL Art Studios on Route 9, 12000 Old Vine Boulevard, Lewes. (Tickets may be purchased online or by phone: rehobothartleague.org or 302-227-8408. However, these ticket books must be picked up at one the RAL locations.)

Tickets may also be purchased at the following area business locations: In Rehoboth Beach at Bellinger’s Jewelers, Browseabout Books, Early Attic Antiques, Farmer Girl Exotic Gardens, J. Conn Scott Showhouse, Tomato Sunshine, Windsor’s Flowers & Plants; in Fenwick at Carolina Street in Lewes at Community Bank of Delaware and Lewes Gourmet; in Bethany Beach at Sea Needles. It is suggested to purchase in advance to assure availability.

This year parking is very limited at several of the house locations, particularly in Dewey Beach. Free parking will be available at the Rehoboth Elementary School parking lot located at 500 Stockley Street, Rehoboth Beach. The Art League is providing Jolly Trolley transportation for Cottage Tour ticket holders. Shuttle service will begin running at 9:45 a.m. and continue until tour ending each day.

The Art League is very appreciative of The Cottage Tour of Art underwriter, J. Conn Scott and sponsor, Boardwalk Builders, in addition to all the other tour sponsors.
