Sen. Russ Huxtable, D-Lewes, was the guest speaker at the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon March 20.
The General Assembly is in session through the end of June. Huxtable touched briefly on a handful of topics the state’s legislators are working on in Dover – ways for people to secure housing, expedited permitting and review processes for construction, ways to help homeowners associations govern their communities, and investments in the state parks.
Sometimes it can feel like bills need to make big changes, but things can be done on the margins that will make a difference, said Huxtable.
Huxtable was asked about the state’s budget. As of now, projections are in the black, but he said there are things happening outside the state’s control that could affect that in the future.
Huxtable, who is not up for re-election this year, was originally scheduled to address the chamber in February, but a snowstorm canceled the meeting.
The monthly membership meeting, held at Nicola Pizza on Route 1, also marked President Kate VanVorst’s first since assuming the position at the beginning of the year. She was previously the chamber’s event coordinator and membership representative.
