Seals soak up the sun
Three seals rest in the sun on one of the icebreakers in Delaware Bay, near Lewes on Feb. 14. Two are down by the water, while a third has hauled out on a higher rock. A layer of ice covers the top of the rocks, making it look like frosting on a birthday cake.

A pair of seals just hanging out on an icebreaker in Delaware Bay, near Lewes on Feb. 14. The rocks were still covered with a frosty layer, but most of the ice was gone or pushed into the Breakwater Harbor.
People walk on the beach at Cape Henlopen Point on Feb. 14. There was still ice on the sand and in Breakwater Harbor, but much of it had melted away in the late winter sun and warmer temperatures.
Nearly 50 seals were observed on the icebreakers and in the water during the Delmarva Birding Weekends cruise.
