Insight Lewes to host Dharma talk, meditation retreat Nov. 3-4

Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will welcome returning meditation teachers Luisa Montero-Diaz and Fran Lewandoski for an evening Dharma talk Friday, Nov. 3, and a full-day meditation retreat Saturday, Nov. 4, with the theme of Setting the Compass of Our Hearts Toward Connection. Non, beginning and experienced meditators are all welcome to attend this weekend of meditation and discussion.

Both the Friday talk and Saturday retreat will be held on a hybrid basis, available both virtually via Zoom and in person at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes. Registration is required. Both in-person and virtual attendees are asked to RSVP by emailing

Montero-Diaz has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 1987 and teaching meditation since 1993. She completed the three-year Community Dharma Leadership program sponsored by the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. She currently teaches a weekly meditation class in Takoma Park, Md., and leads daylong and weekend retreats in the Washington, D.C. area.

Lewandoski has been practicing meditation since 1997. She is a recent graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program sponsored by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. Lewandoski has worked as a licensed clinical social worker for nearly 30 years and is also trained as a somatic experiencing practitioner and play therapist.

The Dharma talk exploring Buddhist teachings will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Nov. 3, and include discussion and light refreshments. The full-day retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 4. Dharma talk, sitting and walking meditation, and mindful movement are included. In-person attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch/snacks. Tea and light refreshments will available.

The suggested donation for Friday’s talk is $10, and $35 is suggested for the Saturday retreat. For those with limited income, 50%, or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up; no explanation is needed. Chairs are provided, but attendees may bring their favorite floor mediation cushions for the retreat.
