Interior designer opens Lewes gallery

Mary DuBois Interiors studio and gallery finds home at Hotel Rodney.
July 10, 2013

Designer Mary DuBois recently relocated her studio, office and gallery to the Hotel Rodney, drawing raves from her clients at her opening party.

The gallery, located just downstairs from the main lobby of the Hotel Rodney, has space for accent pieces and furniture, and DuBois said she plans to make her gallery a place where she will meet with clients to look at fabrics and discuss the evolution of their home's style.

"How I design is not really typical," she said. "I work very closely with the client so it is a reflection of their style, who they are and their personality so they don't say 'this is a Mary DuBois design,' they say 'this is so-and-so's home'."

Clients, contractors and friends came to the opening of the new DuBois' Interiors gallery to praise the designer's talent.

Wolfe Pointe homeowner Chanell Dagesse contacted DuBois Interiors to renovate her home recently for the 'Taste of the Fruit of the Vine' Sussex County Community Outreach benefit.

At 18 rooms and more than 14,000 square feet, the home was no small undertaking.

"I did interview different interior designers, but I went with her because she is such a caring person, and she has a lot of patience," she said. "I didn't even know what my style was, and she helped me find myself."

Since that event, Dagesse said her husband's family has contracted DuBois for her help with renovations on several New Hampshire properties including a family lake house.

DuBois has been working in various aspects of interior design throughout the Mid-Atlantic including Washtington, D.C., for more than 20 years, she said. She  works closely with clients to reflect their individual tastes and reflect their taste cohesively throughout their home.

"She made my house a reflection of who I am," Dagesse said. "She's wonderful."

DuBois' new landlords at the Hotel Rodney have expressed great excitement at the opening of her design gallery, happy to add the designer to the mix of vendors at the hotel.

Her positive energy is amazing," said Cathy Berl, general manager of the Hotel Rodney. "She's quite talented."

Although DuBois expects her new studio gallery will allow her to accommodate more business, the designer said she wants to be careful with growth to keep the business personal.

"I really want to keep it boutique so I can have a one-on-one with clients," she said. "I keep it intimate so I can understand what's best for them."

DuBois Interiors gallery is located under the Hotel Rodney lobby, at 142 Second St., Lewes. For more information go to www.mduboisinteriors.com or call 302-858-6262.
