Isabelle Mac Arthur, former schoolteacher

Isabelle Mac Arthur, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Cadbury at Lewes, her residence for three years. She was born in Philadelphia Dec. 29, 1919, daughter of the late Meta Isabelle and William Krimmel.

Isabelle was a graduate of West Chester High School and West Chester University, where she was a marksman on the rifle team. She had previously taught third grade at Caln Elementary School, Chester County, Pa., for 32 years.

Isabelle loved being with her family, was a NASCAR fan and for her 75th birthday attended the Pepsi Cola 600 race in Charlotte, N.C. In her younger years she was proud of her red Camaro and Harley Davidson. She loved to travel and joined her family in Japan and Europe with Paris being the site of her 54th birthday. She also enjoyed gardening.

After moving to Lewes in 2001, Isabelle continued to be active in Eastern Star Unity Chapter in Lewes, was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and worked as a volunteer at Beebe Medical Center where she was always willing to provide handcrafted items for charitable events.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Scarborough and her brother, William Krimmel.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith Dawson and her husband Dr. Jack Dawson of Lewes and Meta Rettew and her husband Don Rettew of Key West, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday July 5, at Bethel United Methodist Church, West Fourth Street, Lewes. Friends may also call from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday June 27, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where an Eastern Star Service will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be private at a later date near Philadelphia, Pa.
