Jack Hickman, retired developer

Jack Hickman, 78, of Ocean View, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

Mr. Hickman was born June 22, 1932, in Bayard, son of the late Ollie and Mattie Mae (Bishop) Hickman.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army.  Jack was a retired real estate broker and developer, owning Jack Hickman Real Estate Company in Bethany Beach.  Mr. Hickman was also the past postmaster of the Bethany Beach Post Office.  Jack was a member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company and served on the boards of the Wilmington Trust and Sussex Trust banks.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Hickman in 2000; four brothers, Ollie Hickman Jr., William Kelly, Donald Hickman and Elisha Hickman; and a sister, Maude Murray.

He is survived by his wife Katherine H. Cole Hickman; a son, Chad Hickman and his wife Michele of Millville; a daughter, Jaclyn Hills and her husband Steven of Dagsboro; four grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Amber and Derek; a brother, Delmus Hickman; and two sisters, Janis Burbage and Violet Rickards.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, at Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View  where friends and family may call after 11 a.m.  Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jack’s name to Mariner’s Bethel Vision Fund, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970.
