James Whiteley Travis Jr., West Bay Park owner/operator

James Whiteley Travis Jr., 93, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born May 5, 1928, in Lewes, son of the late James Whiteley Travis Sr. and Ruth (Melvin)Travis.

Mr. Travis was a 1946 graduate of the old Rehoboth High School and later continued his studies at Goldey-Beacom College and the University of Delaware; he played basketball at all three schools.

Mr. Travis was the owner and operator of West Bay Park, a mobile home park company where he built a lifetime career, retiring after 30 dedicated years. He was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Mr. Travis was very active man his entire life, enjoying a game of golf, boating and fishing on the area waterways, as well as everything that coastal living had to offer. Above all, Mr. Travis enjoyed spending time with his family and those he held most dear, especially his wife of 71 years who was always by his side.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine (Lawton) Travis; his sons: John "Jack” Lawton Travis (Joseph) of Rehoboth Beach and Baltimore, Md., David Travis (Pamela) of Milton, James Travis III (Debbie) of Harbeson, and Brad Travis Sr. (Michele) of Lewes; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald N. Travis (Jeanette) of Rehoboth Beach; and his sister, Patricia Burton (Bill) of Rehoboth Beach.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, where a viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the services at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks will be required at all aspects of the service at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Travis’s memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, stjude.org.
