The Jefferson School students donate to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

May 20, 2015

Students at The Jefferson School in Georgetown collected Pennies for Patients to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society during April. Students teamed together, each contributing a little, and the total was an amazing $1,583.39.

“I am so proud of our students,” said Head of School Constance Hendricks. “One student or one penny acting alone doesn’t accomplish much, but when we all team together, anything is possible. Our students and staff did a great job of giving selflessly to help children and others battling blood cancer.”

"The Jefferson School was an instrumental part of the success of this year's Pennies for Patients program. The school's generous contribution was part of a team effort of over 100 local schools to raise awareness about blood cancers while raising funds for a cure,” said Natalie DiSabatino, campaign manager at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Delaware, .

School and youth coordinator for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Maryland, Tricia Sturm, said, “Wow, what a wonderful donation! Thank you so much for helping to end blood cancers. On behalf of so many patients and families in Delaware and Maryland, thank you.”

More than 14.4 million students and 10 million educators in almost 29,000 schools across the country are participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's school and youth programs, Pennies for Patients, Olive Garden's Pasta for Pennies and high school programs. For the past 17 years, students have shown how much of an impact they can have by raising more than $261 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $28 million in 2013-14 alone.
