The Rehoboth Beach Patrol has named Sgt. Jodi Johnson as its 2025 Lifeguard of the Year.

Johnson has been a lifeguard in Rehoboth for three seasons, serving the last two as sergeant. He was selected by his peers and fellow leaders to receive the Coach Frank Coveleski Award because he embodies the beach patrol’s core values — leadership, dedication to public service, courage, honor and integrity.

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol headquarters is located at the ocean end of Baltimore Avenue. The patrol oversees the area from Pennsylvania Avenue south to Prospect Street during the summer season. Because the number of available lifeguards is decreasing, the number of lifeguard stands that are open will soon be consolidated to the five-block area between Wilmington and Virginia avenues.

Lifeguards are on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekends and holidays until three weeks after Labor Day, which is Sunday, Sept. 21, this year.
