John C. Flynn, man of many trades

John C. Flynn "Jack," 91, of Lewes, and formerly of Havertown, Pa., passed away at home with his loved ones by his side Friday, May 20, 2022. He was born July 28, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Martin and Mary Flynn.

Mr. Flynn was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1948-53). He married the love of his life, Ms. Evelyn Connolly, July 5, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pa., and together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Mr. Flynn built his career in law enforcement, retiring as a police sergeant. He had many hobbies and interests. Mr. Flynn enjoyed woodworking, fishing and boating. He was a man of many trades, and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. The word in Delaware and Pennsylvania was “If something's broken, call Jack Flynn." His devotion to his family, however, took precedence above all. Mr. Flynn was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Loved by many, he will be deeply and genuinely missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Flynn was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Patrick Flynn; his brother, Martin Flynn; his sister, Jeanne; and his son-in-law, Michael D. O’Brien. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Flynn of Lewes; his daughter, MaryBeth O’Brien of Barnegat, N.J.; his son, John C. Flynn of Lady Lake, Fla.; his daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Flynn of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; his grandchildren: Tara L. Flynn of Riverview, Fla., Timothy Flynn (Christine) of West Chester, Pa., Sean O’Brien (Jennifer) of Barnegat, Ryan Flynn (Jennifer) of Petosky, Mich., and Shane Flynn of Petosky; and his great-grandchildren: Jackson, Colton and Brielle, all of West Chester, and Logan and Collin, both of Petosky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, Wednesday, May 25, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Flynn's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE  19963, delawarehospice.org/donate.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the family understands if you cannot attend the services.
