John E. Langrell, veteran, accomplished entrepreneur

John E. Langrell, 88, of Lewes, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side Saturday, May 3, 2025.

John was born in Harrington to the late Enos and Hazel Langrell. He attended Harrington School District and graduated from Goldey-Beacom College with a degree in accounting. John was an Army veteran and served his country proudly for six years (1957-61). His previous duty stations included Fort Meyer, Va., and the Pentagon. After his service, John became a successful accountant and small business owner. An accomplished entrepreneur, he received significant recognition for his achievements from Texaco.

John was an avid golfer and member of the Fieldstone and King’s Creek country clubs. For many years, he attended The Masters at Augusta National. A world traveler, John embarked on many adventures, including a flight on the Concorde, a trip on The Orient Express, and visited many other international locations. Later in life, he developed a passion for ballroom dancing, frequently traveling to competitions across the country and internationally with his dance family from the Gold Ballroom in Lewes. 

John was predeceased by his parents; his aunt, Mary Brown; his sister, Lois Langrell Curro; his wife, Mary Waters Langrell; and his first wife, Helen Whalen Dalton Langrell. 

John will be greatly missed by family and friends.

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington.
