Joseph A. Faulkner, electronics engineer

Joseph A. Faulkner, 93, of Lewes passed away at home Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. He was born June 16, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Ind., son of the late Shirley Miller Faulkner and Prudence Aurora Yaggy.

Mr. Faulkner proudly served from 1943-45 in the U.S. Army Air Corps. On Aug. 27, 1949, he married the love of his life, Jean Ellen (Mingus) Faulkner. Mr. Faulkner graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in physics. He then worked as an electronics engineer at the Naval Surface Weapons Center for the U.S. government. After retirement he worked for Mandex.

Mr. Faulkner was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and then Groome United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school. He was also on the board of Barratt’s Chapel. He dedicated his time to volunteering in the Jail Ministry as well as visiting shut-ins. Mr. Faulkner enjoyed riding his bicycle, woodworking, traveling with Jean, and spending time with his family. 

In addition to his parents, Faulkner was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Faulkner, in March of this year. He is survived by his children: Sarah Jenkins of Alameda, Calif., Andrew Faulkner (Sandy Keehner) of Millington, Tenn., Joseph A. Faulkner Jr. (Sharon) of Ellicott City, Md., and Elizabeth Dieperink (Rudolf) of West Chester, Pa.; his grandchildren: Morgan Bodvarsson (Robert) of Alameda, Lauren Morrissey (Gareth) of Lewes, Julia Dieperink of Washington, D.C., Megan Faulkner of Catonsville, Md., Katelyn Faulkner of Millington, Joseph A. Faulkner III of Baltimore, Md., and Ainsley Dieperink of West Chester; his great-grandchildren, Nora and Saoirse Morrissey of Lewes, and Robert and Stefan Bodvarsson of Alameda; and his sister, Shirley Rife (Jack).

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Faulkner's name to a charity of your choice.
