Joseph Frederick Rose, man of faith

January 18, 2023

Joseph Frederick Rose, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Brown) Rose.

After graduating from college, Joeseph’s path led him to a 30-year career in Media, Pa., as an engineer for Aqua Pennsylvania, retiring in 1991, a job that was both rewarding and challenging at times. In 1996, Joseph and his wife decided to leave Swarthmore, Pa., where they were living, and made their home in Rehoboth Beach.  An outdoorsman to his core, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the serenity of the swimming pool in his own backyard. His faith was a pillar in his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Above all, the time spent with those he held dear was what he cherished most.  Joseph was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Loved by many, he will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Marie (Wiker) Rose; his sons, Joseph Rose (Jeanmarie) of Ridley Park, Pa., and Robert W. Rose (Patricia) of Folsom, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the services at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery Columbarium, Savannah Road, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Joseph’s memory to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, cancer.org.
