Sussex Consortium Assistant Principal Josh Chubb is set to take on a new role as Cape High assistant principal.

“The Consortium has been home to me,” he said. “I never envisioned leaving, but I saw the opportunity to work with a great team at the high school and apply my knowledge.”

Chubb took a circuitous route into the field of education. A 1998 Laurel High grad, he earned his bachelor’s degree in communications and conflict studies at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, and spent 12 years working in sales and recruiting in New York and Virginia before accepting a position as a paraprofessional at the Consortium.

After earning his teaching degree, Chubb taught for eight years at the Consortium before being named assistant principal two years ago.

“The Consortium develops talent from the inside,” Chubb said. “Cape worked with me to help me attain my career goals. They supported me and truly take care of their own.”

Chubb also coached college football at St. Lawrence University and Stonybrook University, both in New York.

“Having coached helps me in this position, because I have to manage conflicts and I want to help kids,” he said. “My former athletes pointed me toward counseling or teaching. They helped me realize where I should be going, and they led me to education.”

Chubb also holds an administrative certification from St. Lawrence University and a counseling degree from Wilmington University. He lives in Milton with his wife Katie, a Consortium teacher, and their four children, who all attend Cape schools.
