Joyce Brown, devout Christian

June 10, 2025

Joyce Brown (née Kittle), 93, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at home and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Born Jan. 3, 1932, to Edith and Benjamin Kittle, Joyce lived a long and beautiful life. She and her beloved husband, Elmer Brown, shared over 70 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and adventure, raising two children, Pamela (Monetti) and Mark, in Catonsville, Md. From riding camels at the Great Pyramid of Giza to visiting Zermatt, Switzerland, and exploring the Holy Land in Israel, they were blessed to see the world together.

Joyce was a devout believer in our Lord and Savior. She and Elmer were longtime members of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. Her conversations with Pastor Donald Schaefer always lifted her spirits and brought her great joy.

Joyce's love of cinema was unmatched. She could recall nearly any movie or television show she had ever seen—and who starred in it. Her family will fondly remember her extensive DVD collection, which Joyce would only loan out after securing an explicit promise of its safe return.

Joyce loved all living creatures, from the smallest mouse (which terrified her, but she still loved) to her favorite animal, the elephant. She could talk for hours about how much she loved wildlife.

Joyce is survived by her son, Mark Brown, whom she adored. She proudly told everyone how much he helped her and how deeply she loved him. She is also survived by her grandson, Marshall Brown (wife Paige Robinson), in whom she instilled a passion for travel. Sunday lunches with Mark, Marshall, and Paige were a cherished weekly tradition, filled with stories of her travels, treasured memories with Elmer, and plenty of laughter. Joyce is also survived by her daughter, Pamela Monetti (husband Phil); granddaughter, Kristi Hazel; and great-grandsons, Robbie and Brady Hazel.

Joyce was preceded in death by the love of her life, Elmer Brown; her daughter-in-law, Donna Brown, with whom she shared a very special bond.

Services will be held privately.
