Joyce Howard Black, southern belle
Mrs. Joyce Howard Black, 85, of Millsboro, formerly of Savage, Md., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.
Mrs. Black was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Clifton Forge, Va. to the late Robert G. and Virginia Young Howard. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, John R. Black Sr. in 2003; and a son, John R. Black Jr. in 2009.
She was a homemaker, wonderful wife and mother who took great care of her husband and sons. She enjoyed attending church very much and was family oriented. She enjoyed game shows, football (Redskins fan) and NASCAR races. Joyce was the sweetest, most caring southern belle you could ever meet and she will be missed dearly.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Black and his wife Brenda of Warren, Ariz., James Black and his wife Angela of Magnolia, and Paul Black of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Robert G. Howard Jr. and his wife Alice, and William Howard and his wife Betty, both of Clifton George; three brothers-in-law, Thomas O’meara and Gary Warlitner both of Clifton Forge, and Don Piercy of Long Neck; along with numerous grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, cousins, friends and extended family. She is also survived by her beloved canine friend, Mattie Sue.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, Feb. 7, at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyn’s Way, Lewes.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Joyce’s memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
