Kay Anna Gorton, woman of faith

January 3, 2023

Kay Anna Gorton, 74, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Beebe Healthcare. She was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Jospeh N. and Verna (Hallock) Brennan.

Kay was a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), earning her bachelor of science degree in information systems. In 2001, she married William (Bill) Gorton at Arundel Baptist Church in Gambrills, Md. Her career path led to the Department of Defense, where she was employed as a software engineer. After leaving the DOD, she went on to work for Boeing, BAE and other large federal government contractors. Kay was an expert in her trade, and it was a career that was both fulfilling and challenging to her as technology evolved. Kay and her husband loved to travel and did so as often as they could, traveling all over the United States and abroad. Kay’s faith in God was the anchor in her life, and she was a devout member of First Baptist Church of Lewes, where she loved being around her church family. She enjoyed working on puzzles of all kinds and was a competitive card player. Above all else, the time spent with family was her greatest treasure. Kay was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, William (Bill) Gorton; her children, Jennifer Matosziuk, Melissa Hawes, Kristina Smith, Frank Gorton (Ann) and Kim Nguyen (Linh); her grandchildren, Riley and Lily Matosziuk, Cole Smith, Seth and Max Gorton, and Madison Linh; and her sister, Jeanne Brennan (Bill Jenkins).

Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 5, at First Baptist Church of Lewes, 1001 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 11 a.m.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, Md.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
