Kiwanis to host ‘Lorax’ movie fundraiser March 2

February 21, 2019

To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the Millsboro Kiwanis Club is hosting a screening of the animated movie “The Lorax” for its winter fundraiser event at noon, Saturday, March 2, at the Clayton Theatre in Dagsboro.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children up to age 11. Door prizes, a ticket auction and a 50/50 raffle will be held before the movie starts at 1 p.m. The theater is also offering a Lorax lunch for $6, which includes a hot dog, popcorn and soda.

“Since Kiwanis is an organization that sponsors children’s programs, we thought it would be a great idea to do something that could involve the kids,” said Millsboro Kiwanis Club President Aimee Parker. “This is a great way to have a family-friendly fundraiser that kids can be a part of, one that can give parents and children something fun and wholesome they can do together.”

“When kids see other people contributing to support them, it helps to ingrain a sense of citizenship that you hope will continue as they become adults,” she said.

Kiwanis supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oak Orchard/Riverdale and of Dagsboro, the Millsboro Little League, Millsboro Scout Hut and the Terrific Kids program in East Millsboro and Long Neck elementary schools. They also support the Key Club at Sussex Tech, a high school version of the Kiwanis Club that carries out different projects to support local youth.

“I think it’s important to support our community, and it begins with the children,” said Parker. She has served a term as president once before, and she has been a board member for most of the last 10 years.

“We’re always looking for new members,” she said. “Anybody who wants to make a difference in our community is welcome to come to any of our meetings.” The group meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Georgia House Restaurant in Millsboro.

To guarantee seats to see “The Lorax” on the big screen, purchase tickets in advance from any member of Millsboro Kiwanis or go to www.TheClaytonTheatre.com.
