December 26, 2011

Krista Clausen of Georgetown was crowned Miss Delaware USA for 2012 on Nov. 27 at the Dover Sheraton Hotel. She is the daughter of Keith and Terri Clausen of Georgetown, and has a brother, Zach.

Krista graduated from Sussex Central High School with high honors and is now a University of Delaware freshman studying special education. In addition to college, Krista stays busy working as a sales associate at Sunglass Hut, where she enjoys constantly meeting new people.

Krista strongly believes in giving back to her community. She has volunteered for Special Olympics, local pageants, charitable fundraising events and area schools where she talked to the children about diversity appreciation and peer pressures. As she sets her sights on new dreams and goals, she looks forward to working with Angela Viscount, Miss Delaware Teen USA, as they serve their state.

Contestants were judged in categories of personal interview, swimsuits and evening gowns. The competition was reduced from 37 delegates to 11 semifinalists and then to five finalists.

First runner-up Lauren Parks would assume the duties of Miss Delaware USA 2012 if Krista is named Miss USA 2012 or for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities.

Other finalists included second runner-up Alina Wade, third runner-up Lauren Stevenson and fourth runner-up Paige Valley.

The Miss Universe Organization, producer of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, is a Donald J. Trump and NBC Universal joint venture. Utilizing its nationwide grassroots infrastructure, the Miss Universe Organization is committed to increasing awareness of breast and ovarian cancer.
