Sonia De Los Santos delights elementary students
May 31, 2022

For the first time since 2020, the Freeman Arts Pavilion resumed its in-person educational program at Cape High, where hundreds of district elementary students delighted in the music of Latin Grammy-nominated musician Sonia De Los Santos.

Excited students arrived via school bus for the afternoon concert by De Los Santos, who was hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin children’s music artists you should know.”

Students, many of whom are enrolled in the district’s Spanish Immersion program, danced and sang along with De Los Santos in English and Spanish, including songs from her newest album “Esperanza,” a bilingual collection of songs that explore hope.

After touring the world with Grammy Award-winning group Dan Zanes and Friends, De Los Santos released her first solo family music album “Mi Viaje: De Nuevo León to the New York Island” in 2015. The album, which reflects her experience growing up in Mexico and moving to America, received the Parents’ Choice Foundation Gold Award.

In 2019, De Los Santos was nominated for a Latin Grammy with her second family music album “¡Alegría!” She has performed in venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, The Getty Museum and Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
