Lawson to address Sussex Preservation Coalition Nov. 14

November 8, 2023

Todd Lawson, Sussex County administrator, will discuss the county council’s action items and next steps related to its review of critical residential development design standards at the Sussex Preservation Coalition’s monthly meeting set for 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Delaware State Police Troop 7, 19444 Mulberry Knoll Road, Lewes. There also is a Zoom option. The event is free and open to the public.

Because of the high public interest, guests are asked to register by emailing spcde.org@gmail.com and to specify if they will attend in person or online.

Lawson will review development design issues currently under consideration by Sussex County Council. These include forest preservation, open space, buffers, site work and superior design elements. The issues were identified and discussed at a joint county council-planning & zoning commission meeting in September. Many of the concerns raised by SPC were covered at that meeting and are now part of the council’s ongoing review.

The pace of growth and development, destruction of forests and wetlands, and other quality-of-life issues have become hot-button issues in the coastal region.

SPC supporters, now numbering around 2,000, also are reminded that the nonprofit organization will mark its first anniversary with a celebration and fundraising event from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Lewes Public Library. There will be a silent and live auction, light food, and music.

SPC is a coalition of local environmental groups in Sussex County dedicated to preserving and protecting local ecosystems. Its mission is to increase the impact of groups and individuals by working together to educate, organize, advocate and act.
