Leonard James Downs, longtime priest

Rev. Leonard James “Jim” Downs died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024.
He was born in Washington, D.C., Oct. 7, 1940, and grew up in Hillcrest Heights, Md., with his parents, Leonard J. Downs and Alta Lois Downs; his sister, Portia “Betty” Downs Donovan Lichtenberger of Louisville, Ky.; and his brother, Paul Downs of Solomons, Md.
He will be missed by his sister, his brother, nine nieces and nephews, and 15 great-nieces and -nephews, as well as a multitude of members of the many parishes he served in the Archdiocese of Washington and in Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Father Downs’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
