Let’s keep Clear Space in Rehoboth

June 10, 2025

There is a move afoot to raise money to get the Cape Henlopen Senior Center moved from downtown out to its property on Hebron Road. The City of Rehoboth Beach has offered a really good package to Clear Space to keep them in town, but the senior center has to be moved first. The senior center had a $2 million grant from the feds, but that has evaporated. An independent group of citizens has formed a task force to raise money to generate the necessary funding. City Commissioner Mark Saunders is the liaison with the center, but the group is not affiliated otherwise with the city.

Clear Space adds so much to downtown Rehoboth, where there are restaurants and shops for before- and after-show enjoyment. The downtown businesses and locals benefit from having the theater downtown, and it fosters a sense of community.

A fundraising cabaret-type event will be held in the Rehoboth Convention Center Nov. 20, so save the date!

We in downtown Rehoboth want the theater to stay in Rehoboth. There definitely is urgency as there is a shovel-ready piece of property available to them in Lewes. And Lewes is courting them very aggressively, so we need to make our voices heard ASAP! Let's bring the two parts together to make one case.
