Lewes BPW plans power outages

Work is part of Old Orchard Road realignment
August 11, 2023

The Lewes Board of Public Works has announced three planned power outages as part of the Old Orchard Road realignment project.

The outages are planned for Thursday, Sept. 14; Thursday, Oct. 5; and Thursday, Oct. 19. All will run from midnight to 4 a.m.

BPW General Manager Austin Calaman said the outages will affect the entire City of Lewes.

“The outages are needed to relocate Delmarva Power transmission lines on Savannah Road. Each outage is a different phase of work which will result in a brand new configuration of the transmission line in and around the area,” Calaman said.

Calaman said the BPW will notify customers and update them based on information received from Delmarva Power and the Delaware Department of Transportation.

The Old Orchard Road project will bring extensive changes to the congested maze of intersections west of Lewes. DelDOT plans to realign Old Orchard Road with Wescoats Road, creating a new four-way signalized intersection. The project also includes a roundabout and realignment of Marsh, Westcoats and Clay roads.

DelDOT’s website says the project is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
