Lewes brewery to host 5K run and Crooked Crawl Oct. 12

Event benefits Children’s Beach House, honors memory of Ashley Furio
October 4, 2024

Crooked Hammock Brewery will host the Ashley Furio 5K Run and Crooked Crawl to benefit Children’s Beach House Saturday, Oct. 12, at 36707 Crooked Hammock Way, Lewes.

Now in its eighth year, the run supports the Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center, a preschool serving 3- and 4-year-olds, and honors Ashley Nicole Furio, who passed away at age 25 in 2014. Ashley had a passion for community service, earning certifications as an EMT-Basic and nursing assistant, volunteering with local fire departments and attending nursing school. Ashley’s parents, Rose and David Furio, wanted the run to reflect her love for bringing people together and chose Children’s Beach House as the beneficiary.

For folks who want race swag without sacrificing their footwear or knees, there’s a registration option for the Crooked Crawl. Right after the racers and walkers hit the course, the Crooked Crawlers will gather at the starting line with their race T-shirts, have their group photo taken, then head back into the Crooked Hammock to kick off the post-race party with live music, brews, a brunch buffet, games and a 50/50 raffle. The whole family can enjoy this event with a kiddie fun run, face painting, a magician, crafts and the Crooked Hammock play area.

The choice of the Crooked Hammock was also meaningful because of Ashley’s connection with Josh and Rich Garrahan, managing partners at La Vida Hospitality, which owns Crooked Hammock. “Ashley was a friend,” said Rich Garrahan. “She always sought to spread joy and help others. This event is a way for the Hammock to continue that in her honor, and at the same time benefit an organization that is doing so much good in our community,”
