Lewes Crossing neighbors donate for Beebe pediatric patients
Lewes Crossing residents recently presented 56 Jared Boxes to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
A Jared Box is a plastic shoebox filled with small gifts, games, crayons, coloring books and other activities supplies. Boxes are given to children in the hospital to provide some enjoyable diversion. The boxes calm nerves, lift spirits and show the children that someone cares.
Neighborhood representatives Donna Holmes and Kate Michalski delivered the boxes to Lee Halloran, volunteer manager, who was thrilled to receive the boxes. There continues to be an ongoing need due to the number of children served by Beebe Healthcare.
Any group that would be interested in doing a community project to make boxes may contact the Beebe Healthcare Volunteer Services office at 302-645-3531 or volunteer@beebehealthcare.org, or email Donna Holmes at echdah@gmail.com.
The nonprofit Jared Box Project has distributed more than 1 million Jared Boxes to hospitals in all 50 states.
