Lewes Fire Department hosts Strawberry Sip & Shop
The Lewes Fire Department held its third annual Strawberry Sip & Shop festival June 7 with Saltwater Roots Events at its Nassau station.
The rain didn’t keep folks from enjoying the event, which featured more than 70 vendors, lots of fresh strawberries and various homemade strawberry desserts prepared by the auxiliary, including strawberry pretzel salad, strawberry shortcakes, strawberry cupcakes and Hopkins Farm Creamery strawberry ice cream. There was also strawberry wine for the adults.
Vendors sold a variety of handcrafted items, such as clothing, jewelry and art, as well as baked goods and other foods and drinks.
The kids enjoyed miniature pony rides, a face-painting station and a petting zoo featuring an alpaca, a miniature donkey, a goat, a guinea pig, a duck and a chicken. The auxiliary also set up a touch-a-truck experience, where the kids could sit in a fire truck and talk to some of the local heroes.
The fire department’s mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog, walked around the premises giving high-fives and hugs.
There were also adoptable shelter dogs, courtesy of Grass Roots Rescue.
Proceeds from the event benefit the fire department.
