Lewes Fire Department open house set Oct. 16 at Nassau station

October 8, 2025

During Fire Prevention Month, Lewes Fire Department will host its sixth annual open house from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, at Station 2, 32198 Janice Road near the Nassau Bridge.

Parking will be available at the Lewes Senior Activity Center and and R.E. Michel Company. Free van shuttle service will be provided to transport visitors to and from their cars.

The event will feature children’s activities, musical entertainment, equipment display, live firefighting and vehicle extrications, CPR demonstrations, a smoke house, a drone station and Exit Drills in the Home presentations. Kids can try on small-scale gear to really feel the weight of what it takes to be a firefighter. New this year will be a coloring station where youngsters can win prizes.

Lewes Fire Dept. T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps and winter hats will be offered for sale in adult and children’s sizes. Lewes FD now accepts Venmo and credit cards for easy purchasing.

Food trucks from Fat Vinny’s, Tipsy Flamingo, Hopkins Farm Creamery, Pretzelvania and Lewes Brewing Co. will be on site for dinner, dessert and beverage purchases.

Children are invited to take part in a scavenger hunt. If they visit at least eight of the activities to have their “passport” stamped by a member, they will receive a prize compliments of Tommy Taylor of State Farm Insurance, along with a Lewes Fire Department Challenge Coin.

Mascot Sparky will be available for high fives and photo opportunities throughout the night. Raffle items will include bike helmets, gift cards, Lewes Fire Department memorabilia and the grand prize, an opportunity for four people to ride in a fire truck during the Lewes Christmas Parade.

Information will be available for anyone who would like to learn about joining the Lewes Fire Department. There are numerous ways to help and volunteer. Since 1796, citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the city’s volunteer fire service. For 200 years, the association has been filled with men and women wanting to serve others.
