The Lewes Fire Department hosted its inaugural Fire Prevention Open House Oct. 22, at Station 2 near the Nassau Bridge. Children were given a passport with a firehouse map showing stations to be visited in order to qualify for a prize and raffle entry. There were live fire and vehicle extrication demonstrations, a smoke house, equipment displays, CPR presentations and children's activities. Auxiliary members offered ambulance and fire truck-shaped cookies for kids to decorate and eat. Volunteers provided informational handouts, fire prevention materials and free smoke detectors during the 4-hour event.
