Lewes Greenways and Trails to meet at city hall April 21
Lewes Greenways and Trails met again on a sunny morning March 17 for work at the Canary Creek Trail.
Part of the Greenways mission is to educate residents and visitors about the endless network that Lewes is part of, and this includes Canary Creek, which joins the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. The Canary Creek public trail begins at the bike rack on Seagull Drive in Pilottown Village in Lewes. The northern portion of the trail skirts the tidal marsh around Canary Creek on the west side of Reserves at Pilottown.
Volunteers completed a new loop on the half-mile, out-and-back trail. The loop provides access to a mature upland forest, which is a more endangered habitat in Sussex County than forested wetlands. Now is probably the best time of year to explore these open spaces.
Greenways will next meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 21, at Lewes City Hall to discuss projects and approaches to bring Lewes’ connections into greater public appreciation. For more information, email ninacannata@comcast.net or go to www.ci.lewes.de.us and search Greenways.
