Lewes Knights of Columbus give to Food for Families

September 28, 2014

During the 2013-14 Fraternal Year, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council started a new initiative, Food for Families Program. Under this program, local Knights councils are encouraged to collect food and donate it to local organizations that help feed the hungry in local communities. As an additional incentive, the Supreme Council will reward local councils with a cash rebate based on the amount of food collected.

The Monsignor Desmond Council of the Knights of Columbus in Lewes participated in the Food for Families Program and collected 2,689 pounds of food that was donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Jude the Apostle Parish.

In addition to the food, the Msgr. Desmond Council presented the St. Vincent DePaul Society with the cash rebate which the council received for its efforts.

The Msgr. Desmond Council presented the SVDP Society a check for $500 Sept. 6. Shown (l-r) are President Frank Walder of the SVDP Society, Eileen Walder, and Grand Knight Tom Hinderliter of the Msgr. Desmond Council.
