It's traditional for the Lightship Overfalls Foundation to kick off each season with a party. The 13th annual event at the Virden Center, sponsored by Community Bank, celebrated the naming of the ship as a National Historic Landmark. Proceeds from three kinds of auctions and other donations help support the efforts of the foundation to collect, preserve, honor and teach maritime history.
Other major sponsors included Prudential Gallo, Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, Lewes Printing, Delaware Beach Book, Clean Cut Interlocking Pavers, Raymond F. Book & Associates and Salsa Dippers.
The top auction item, selling for $1,600, was a catered dinner for 10 on the Overfalls.
