Lewes man faces fourth DUI
A Lewes man faces his fourth driving under the influence charge following an Aug. 23 traffic stop on Robinsonville Road.
A trooper on patrol about 10 p.m. saw a white Acura traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Robinsonville Road near Kendale Road and pulled the car over, police said. The driver Nathaniel Spencer, 54, got out of his car, and police said he showed impairment and police could smell alcohol on him. Police said the front tire of the Acura was also shredded, and the car was riding on the rim.
Following standardized field sobriety tests, police said, Spencer was taken into custody. A computer inquiry revealed that Spencer was under pretrial conditions prohibiting him from driving or being in control of a vehicle. In addition, police said, the trooper discovered that the vehicle was uninsured, the registration was expired, and Spencer’s driver’s license was revoked.
Spencer was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with fourth-offense driving under the influence and other traffic offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $8,400 cash bond.
