The Insight Meditation Community of Lewes welcomes returning meditation teacher Larissa Kitenko for an evening Dharma talk and daylong meditation retreat Friday, May 4. Both beginning and experienced meditators are invited to attend this weekend of learning to live effectively in the present moment; the public is welcome.

The Dharma Talk (Buddhist teachings) with the title of The Power of Presence: Why We Meditate followed by discussion will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall. The full day retreat, including a talk on The Power of Presence: Holding On and Letting Go; sitting and walking meditation; and discussion, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall.

Kitenko is a longtime practitioner of insight meditation, studying and practicing Buddhism in the Theravadan tradition, and for over a year has been the monthly teacher at IMC-Lewes. She has completed the Community Dharma Leader-4 Program and the Dedicated Practitioner Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and is a teacher at IMC-Washington, D.C., led by Tara Brach, Ph.D. She has trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn and has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction since 2005, and is certified as an associate clinical chaplain at Shore Health System in Easton, Md.

Leader of the Easton Meditation Sangha, Kitenko also teaches at the Salisbury Buddhist Community, Mindfulness Meditation in Dover, and the Insight Meditation Community of Grasonville, Md., as well as IMC-Lewes. She also leads workshops and retreats all throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The suggested donation for Friday's talk is $10 and $35 for the Saturday retreat. Saturday attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch. For those with limited income, 50 percent, or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up; no explanation is needed.

Saint Peter's Episcopal Parish Hall is located at 211 Mulberry St. in Lewes. Chairs are provided; however, attendees may bring their favorite floor meditation cushions for the retreat.
